3 BLIND BOYS ON THE BLOCK

Hey Everyone!

I'm currently at the airport in Charlotte, NC waiting on my flight to my hometown, Detroit, MI. I figured that I would update the universe on my acting career. I recently wrapped up a production for a film titled, "3 Blind Boys on the Block". The story follows a crime involving three young men. The "3 Blind Boys" are all facing a dilemma involving past issues. I portray Terrance Battle, one of the troubled men of the group. It was a very challenging role, but I believe I did very well.  The writer and director of the film, Alan Nettles (Moving4ward Productions), wanted to speak on issues that young African-American men face, that are often unknown and unspoken of. We all hope that this film will touch many lives from all races and ethnicities towards the understanding and harmony of the human race. CHECK OUT THE TRAILER BELOW!!!

Keep Believing!

My first television commercial!

When is it okay to say that you are living your  dream? I've been working really hard to make a name for myself. My diligence is paying off, and I'm gaining more recognition in the southeast region of USA in the film industry. A major boost to contribute to my goal has been my first televised commercial! I lead in Farm Bureau Insurance's TV spot, giving thanks to all the veterans that have served for America. I'm very grateful and I know that this will only lead to more opportunities in the future. I'm thankful and definitely enjoying the journey! The future just got even brighter! Until next time...

Hold on to your dreams!

FILM-COM & S.O.A.R.ing in Atlanta w/ Winsome Sinclair!

This past week FILM-Com was showcased in Nashville, TN. That gave a chance for the talent in Nashville to showcase its talent by promoting and pitching ideas to industry names from LA, NYC, and Atlanta. I was honored with the opportunity to meet Casting Director; Winsome Sinclair (Fast and Furious, Barbershop 3) and decided to register for her class. I visited one of my favorite cities, Atlanta. The purpose was to sharpen my acting skills by attending an intensive study with  Winsome. The focus was on audition technique and how to Start Owning the Auditon Room (SOAR)! There were also other skills learned as well from streghtening the relationship between an actor and agent, Meisner Technique exercises, brand building, even to SAG-AFTRA information. I was require to prepare scenes for her and her associates, which led to an one-on-one session with Ms. Sinclair. She gave me some important keys towards becoming a successful actor. Let's just say that I am very, VERY confident that I will have my time as a major actor in the business! I returned home a better man and actor, and I'm thankful for this mighty blessing. THE FUTURE JUST GOT BRIGHTER!!! -MJ

Room for Improvement

Grow... Study... Practice... Learn... Improve
... And REPEAT! These are some words you will constantly hear if you are striving to find consistent work as an actor. The industry I work in is one of the most competitive markets in the world. It is also one of the markets where there are more people seeking work
than there is work available.

So what must I do to survive? I must grind my way to the top. I must improve each and every day. Whether it's fine tuning my voice for clearer speech, or relaxing to my body to give fluid actions, I must persist as an evolutionary actor.

I know if I want to be considered a great, I have to work my butt off, day in and day out. This just doesn't go for me but for all actors. It doesn't matter if you're a beginner or an Academy Award winning actor, there is ALWAYS room for improvement!

What Does It Take?

Hey, I'm home after filming a movie where I was on set for just 7 hours on a Sunday. The previous day was 10 hours. In Hollywood, you'd be blessed to work just a 12 hour day. So I'm very happy for the preparation I am receiving for the bigger roles I am hoping to receive in the near future.
The thoughts of becoming an A-List actor has been something that has been heavily on my mind. I don't want to be one just for the fame and fortune, but I really love my craft. I have worked hard to get where I am not and I am willing to work harder to go further. Knowing that acting is my career choice; I also want to be one of the best. I feel that anything that you are passionate about, you should give it everything you got. So when it comes to acting; I won't halfheartedly pursue it. I will do what it takes to be great.
A question I have pondered throughout my short career (9 years), is what does it take to be considered on of the greats? How does it feel to be in the same realm of the Denzel Washingtons and Meryl Streeps of the world? What is the X-Factor required to make your talent stand out from another's? Is this industry really about who you know? Does the casting directors really care about your talent or do they just care about the money the are trying to make? Is it really possible to be one of the few out of the hundreds of thousands of people pursuing this dream to inspire on a world stage?
With all the questions I have. The solution to me is whatever the mind believes, it can achieve. With that being said; I believe that I am one of the top actors of my generation. I do believe I will be considered one of the greats. I declare that I will inspire on a world stage, and be one the top actor in this industry.... It all starts with a dream.

In the Beginning

Hello, thank you for visiting my blog: "
An Actor's Quest". I am Marcus DeSean Jackson. I am a professional actor from Detroit, Michigan. I am currently represented by the Avenue Agency, located in Nashville, Tennessee. This blog is dedicated to the craft of acting, and my journey to become one of the biggest names in entertainment. I have been acting for quite some time. I started my journey in 2005 when I was just a junior at Cass Technical High School. I was discovered by Mr. Ronald Otulakowski, he is a speech professor, and he has acted and directed in many stage plays throughout Michigan. While under his direction, I starred in the plays; "Arsenic and Old Lace", "Carmen Jones", and "Of Mice and Men". I graduated from high school in 2007, and decided to move to the southern states for college. I attended Tennessee State University, but decided to major in business management. I wasn't until my sophomore year until I had an urge to act again. I was two years removed from acting when I came across a flyer on campus. On the flyer noted auditions for a student production for a play titled "Good Men are Hard NOT to Find" written and directed by Michael E. Johnson II. The flyer was such an attraction, that I couldn't help but to think about getting back into acting. The only thing was that the audition date was the same day, and that's when my nerves started to kick in. I started having doubts and asking question like, "Am I good enough?" And, "Do I have the time to do this?" I was conflicted, I decided to do what I would normally do when I need help with an important decision, PRAY. The audtions began at 7 and it wasn't until the very last minute where I found myself signing my name to receive my sides for the audition. Long story short, I was casted and I joined a group of talented individuals that are currently living their dreams accross the nation. Shortly after, in 2011, I decided to do a school production. It was for a play entitled, "RUINED" written by Lynn Nottage and it was directed by Dr. Lawrence James. The story covered the issue with women sufferage in Africa. I played the role of Fortune. The production did so well that we were invited to Daytona, Florida to compete in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. Our production became a region IV finalist, but we didn't become a national finalist. From that experience I realized that acting is what wanted I to do for a career. I decided to change my major to theatre and in the years following, I appeared in many stage plays throughout TSU and Nashville. Some of those plays include "A Raisin in the Sun", and August Wilson's "Seven Guitars ", where I was nominated for the Irene Ryan Award. In 2014, I signed to the Avenue Agency. Thereafter, I appeared on national television, starring in "Fatal Attraction" and "Snapped: Killer Couples". My journey as an actor has been amazing up to this point. I have been blessed to travel to parts of the country, doing what I love. It is my hope and dream that I will utilize my talents to become one of the greatest actors of all time, and achieve many accolades along the way. This blog has many aspects of my career on it's way. Readers will be able to get a detailed look of what it takes to make it, the ups and downs, and the unparalleled determination and belief towards one's destiny. It is my honor to share my story. Please come back biweekly for new content!

Thanks,
Marcus DeSean Jackson
